Plimsoll Mark

Plimsoll Mark: Internationally recognised line, painted on the side of a vessel.

When a vessel is loaded, the water level is not allowed to exceed the line. Bearing in mind water temperature, salt content of the water and the season, the water can reach different levels in relation to the line.

In addition to Load Line, this is sometimes also referred to as Plimsoll Line or Plimsoll Mark.
